Doan Brook Enhancement Project–Latest news on this new project

Posted by on February 14th, 2011

Northern Ohio Regional Sewer District held a meeting in January to get shareholders input on their design objectives for enhancement of Doan Brook in the section from East 105th & MLK Jr.Blvd lagoon north to just short of the Superior Road bridge where the Cultural Gardens begin.

A knowledgeable representative of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation (CCGF) attended the meeting.

Briefly, this new project will 1) Maintain current stream alignment; 2) Reconstruct a stable stream channel with the proper dimension, pattern, and profile that can handle local flows; 3) Improve the habitat through stable pools and riffles; creation of low-flow channel and thalweg (edit.definition: deepest parts of the brook and the fastest flowing); use terraced flood plains of re-used wall materials and use plantings that fit the park setting.

Additionally, their top Design Objective is: Minimize impact to the historic Cultural Gardens.

CCGF applauds NORSD for working with us to insure the best possible result for everyone affected.
