Polish Garden

Located at the corner of St. Clair and East Boulevard, the Polish Cultural Garden was dedicated in 1934, with the planting of an elm tree from Poland. Originally designed as a sunken, hexagonal court, the Polish Garden was designed with organic material from Poland. At its center stands an octagonal fountain, built primarily with small donations from schoolchildren in 1953.

Surrounding this central feature are seven busts to Polish artists and scientists, each dedicated between 1947 and 1966: Frederic Chopin, Nicholas Copernicus, Maria Sklodowska Curie, Maria Konopnicka, Adam Mickiewicz, Ignace Jan Paderewski, Henryk Sienkiewicz. Subsequently most of the original busts disappeared.  As of 2011, the busts in the Garden are Frederic Chopin (2010 replica); Nicholas Copernicus (1961 replica); Maria Sklodowska Curie (2009 replica); Ignace Jan Paderewski (2011 replica), and Henryk Sienkiewicz (2001 replica).  The Konopnicka and Mickiewicz busts will be restored in future years.
