Update on Cultural Gardens Storm Damage
While we have found five, additional, very large trees down in the Gardens, none of them is endangering any Garden infrastructure. They are in alphabetical order:
-African American Garden–top of hill adjacent to Wheelock Avenue. (2 trees)
-American Legion Peace Garden of the Nations on Superior Avenue–see photo
-Czech Garden’s path along Doan Brook
-Rusin Garden’s path along Doan Brook
The Division of Park Maintenance has been busy removing the small limbs and branches from all the downed trees, leaving the large limbs and trunks to the City’s Forestry group and their heavy equipment. Forestry intends to start working on the large timber starting this weekend and continuing for a week or two depending upon weather conditions and accessibility to the timber. Heavy trucks on soaked ground could lead to ruts that would be very unsightly and expensive to repair.
Together with the leaf removal that Park Maintenance has been carrying out in all of the Gardens, the Gardens look very attractive at this point, large timber excepted.
